Kansas City lacrosse officials training

The Great Plains Lacrosse Officials Association prepares new and returning officials to serve youth and high school lacrosse throughout the Kansas City metro. Our program combines classroom instruction, on-field mechanics, clear certification guidance, and continuing mentorship. You do not need prior officiating experience to begin. Former players, students, parents, and community members can all build the judgment and confidence required to manage a game well.

Officials receive practical instruction on positioning, communication, safety, game control, and the rules that apply to their assignments. Training is designed to move from explanation to realistic field situations, so participants understand not only what a rule says but how to recognize and administer it during live play. Returning officials can refresh mechanics, ask questions, and prepare for the coming season with other members of the local officiating community.

A flexible, paid way to support the sport

Officiating keeps you connected to lacrosse while building leadership, decision-making, and communication skills. Game assignments are paid, and officials can indicate availability around school, work, family, and other commitments. GPLOA supports games across Kansas City, Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee, Lee’s Summit, and surrounding communities in Kansas and Missouri.

How to get on the field

Start by reviewing the current training schedule and submitting the registration form. New officials then complete the appropriate USA Lacrosse membership steps, required background screening, online education, rules examinations, and scheduled classroom or field sessions. Requirements vary by boys or girls assignments and by experience level, so follow the published checklist and contact GPLOA when a step is unclear.

Certification deadlines matter because assigners need time to confirm eligibility before spring games begin. Complete each requirement early, save your completion records, and ask questions before the deadline. GPLOA’s goal is to help every prepared official enter the season knowing where to be, what equipment to carry, and whom to contact for support.
